Chamber hosts virtual state of community

The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce will host the 2021 State of the Community as a newly designed virtual event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Keynote speaker is Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall. Rick Baldridge, president and CEO of Viasat Inc., Steve Hendren, vice president and general manager of TaylorMade Golf Co., and Win Cramer, CEO of JLab, will also speak. Join business, civic and community leaders to discuss the state of the Carlsbad community and share ideas to plan for a successful future. ‘Older, Bolder Expo’ invites exhibitors

The first “Older & Bolder Expo” is being planned for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 18 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 6628 Santa Isabel. The free event from the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce will educate and raise awareness about the issues that will affect us all as we age. The event will feature information on products and services designed to make the most of life at all ages. Speakers will discuss topics from financial planning and navigating Medicare to home safety and adult learning. Exhibitors will offer information and tips on aging successfully. Children’s museum names director

Alex Goodman, a recent recipient of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce’s “40 Under 40” awards, has been named director of philanthropy at the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum. Goodman comes to the museum from New Village Arts, where he served for six years as the managing director. His arts background includes the La Jolla Playhouse, where he spent 31/2 years as the audience development manager and then corporate relations manager. He was named to the “40 Under 40” list as a leader of the future, and one who is already making an impact. Goodman is also on the board of the San Diego Regional Arts and Culture Coalition, the North County Arts Network and the North County Philanthropy Council. Visit

Chamber to host mixer, present awards Aug. 24

The Escondido Chamber of Commerce holds its August Business After 5 Mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 24 in person at The Grand/Ritz Theater, 301 E. Sunday giveaways at Stater Bros. markets

Stater Bros. Markets celebrates 85 years in Southern California with in-store anniversary giveaways on Sunday. ACE course aims at fitness inclusivity

The American Council on Exercise is offering a first-of-its-kind course on how exercise professionals and health coaches can build a more inclusive fitness industry. The online course, “Taking Action with ACE: Practicing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as an Exercise Professional,” will better equip exercise professionals and health coaches to support diverse communities, use an inviting environment to boost client engagement and retention, and be better advocates for the fitness industry. Business summit for military Wednesday

The San Diego Air & Space Museum will host the 2021 San Diego Military Summit from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. This free in-person summit, presented by the San Diego North Educational Foundation, will bring together the military and business communities for a day of workshops, speakers, exhibitors and networking. Topics will include Translating Your Military Experience for Civilians; Utilizing Social Media During Transition; Figuring Out What Is Next; Understanding VA Benefits for You and Your Family; and What Businesses Do to Support Veterans and Military Spouses. Tech Tuesday features media speaker

The Vista Chamber of Commerce hosts Tech Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at The Film Hub, 170 Eucalyptus Ave. Jeff Fox of Star Fox Media will discuss how to use Inbound Marketing Strategies to grow your business. Topics will include Marketing Strategy, Branding, SEO, Email Marketing, Content Creation, Advertising and Analytics. Attendance is capped at 20.
